Tigerwood (Ipe), also known as Goncalo Alves, is the most exotic looking of the Brazilian Hardwoods. Tigerwoodeatures a unique light golden-brown to reddish-brown coloring with exotic black and brown streaks. Tigerwood is kiln dried and is approximately 2 ½ times harder than Oak, naturally resistant to mold, mildew and insects, with an approximate 100-year life span.
When we first install your Tigerwood decking, it might be a pale shade but if you want a darker, richer color do not put your finisher on yet. If your deck does get full sun, as the sun hits your boards it will bring out more color each day! Apply your finisher on once the color has come out. Once your deck is installed, you do not have to do anything to your Tigerwood deck for it to last for years to come but it will turn to a silvery-gray color if you do not apply a UV Finisher made for Hardwoods.
